West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran has etched his name in the history during his innings against New Zealand at the ongoing T20 World Cup on Wednesday.
Pooran has become the all-time leading run-scorer for West Indies in T20Is. He surpassed the legendary Chris Gayle to set a new benchmark.
Gayle, who represented the West Indies in 79 T20Is, aggregated 1899 runs with an average of 27.92 and a strike-rate of 137.5.
Ahead of the contest, Pooran needed three runs to overtake Gayle which he duly did.
Pooran hit three fours during his 12-ball knock to score 17 runs which took his tally of T20I runs to 1914. He is the only batter from the West Indies to breach the 1900-run mark in the format.
Since making his debut against Pakistan in September 2016, he has played 91 T20Is and boasts of a strike rate of 134.03 and an average of 25.52.
