NEWS REPORT: Former Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Adam Thielen Found Dead in Hotel Room Along Mississippi River……

In a stunning and tragic development, former Minnesota Vikings head coach and longtime NFL star Adam Thielen was found dead in a downtown Minneapolis hotel room early Sunday morning. The 34-year-old former wide receiver, who briefly stepped into a coaching role following his retirement in 2024, was discovered unresponsive by hotel staff at The Riverfront Plaza Hotel, located along the Mississippi River.

Emergency responders were called to the scene at approximately 7:15 AM. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, Thielen was pronounced dead on-site. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the death and is currently conducting an autopsy to determine the cause. Foul play has not been ruled out, but authorities have not yet disclosed further details pending investigation.

Thielen, a native of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, became a hometown hero after joining the Vikings in 2013 as an undrafted free agent. Over the course of his 10-year playing career, he earned two Pro Bowl selections and became known for his grit, leadership, and underdog rise from a Division II college program to NFL stardom.

In 2024, shortly after retiring from the NFL, Thielen was appointed as a special offensive assistant with the Vikings and later stepped in as interim head coach following a surprise mid-season resignation. Though his coaching stint was brief, his impact was deeply felt by players and fans alike.

Vikings team owner Mark Wilf released a statement Sunday afternoon:
“Adam Thielen was more than just a football player — he was the embodiment of what it meant to be a Viking. His work ethic, humility, and commitment to this organization and our community were unmatched. We are heartbroken by this loss.”

Tributes have poured in from across the NFL, with former teammates, coaches, and fans expressing shock and sorrow over the unexpected passing. The U.S. Bank Stadium will dim its lights in Thielen’s honor tonight, and fans have begun leaving flowers and jerseys outside the stadium gates.

Thielen is survived by his wife, Caitlin, and their three children. The family has requested privacy during this time of mourning.

The Minnesota Vikings have canceled all team activities for the week and are expected to hold a public memorial in the coming days.
