DEAL ACCEPTED! Derby County FC have officially completed a stunning deal to sign United States international forward Patrick Agyemang from Charlotte FC, bringing a powerful and exciting attacking option to Pride Park.
The Rams confirmed the signing of Agyemang on 15 July 2025, with the striker putting pen to paper on a four-year contract that keeps him at Derby County until the summer of 2029. The transfer represented a major step in the forward’s career as he made the move from Major League Soccer to English football.
Agyemang arrived at Derby after an impressive spell with Charlotte FC, where his physical presence, movement and ability to score important goals had made him one of the club’s most exciting attacking players. Charlotte confirmed that his departure represented a club-record transfer sale, while Derby secured the services of a forward they believed could make an immediate impact in the Championship.
Standing at around 193 centimetres, Agyemang offers Derby a different dimension in attack. His strength allows him to compete with defenders, while his pace and movement can create problems in behind. His ability to operate as a central striker also gives the coaching staff another option when building an attacking system.
The forward’s route to professional football was anything but ordinary. Born in East Hartford, Connecticut, Agyemang developed through the American college system before becoming the 12th overall selection in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. He subsequently joined Charlotte FC and continued developing into a dangerous forward.
His time in Charlotte saw him score 22 goals in 72 appearances across all competitions. During the 2024 MLS season, he scored 10 goals and helped Charlotte reach the playoffs, further increasing his reputation and attracting attention from clubs outside the United States.
Agyemang also earned international recognition with the United States. His performances at club level helped him break into the USMNT setup, and he represented his country during the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, scoring twice during the tournament as the United States reached the final.
For Derby, the transfer was about more than simply adding another striker. The Rams were looking to build a competitive squad capable of challenging in the Championship, and Agyemang’s profile offered something different. His height, strength and attacking instincts made him an intriguing addition to the squad.
His first campaign in English football eventually demonstrated why Derby had invested in him. According to Derby County, Agyemang scored 10 goals and provided four assists in the 2025/26 Championship campaign before suffering a serious Achilles tendon injury against Stoke City in April 2026.
That injury also ruled him out of contention for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the United States. FIFA confirmed that the striker suffered the Achilles injury during Derby’s Championship victory over Stoke City and would miss the tournament.
Despite the setback, Agyemang remains an important part of Derby County’s long-term plans. His contract runs until 2029, underlining the club’s belief in his ability and potential.
For Derby supporters, the arrival of a young international forward with MLS experience and a growing reputation represented a statement of ambition. The Rams were not simply signing a player for the present; they were investing in an attacking talent capable of developing further in English football.
The “DEAL ACCEPTED” announcement therefore marked a significant moment for Derby County. From Charlotte FC to Pride Park, Agyemang’s journey brought him onto one of English football’s biggest stages.
Now, with his recovery and future at Derby in focus, supporters will be hoping to see the powerful forward back on the pitch and producing the goals, assists and attacking performances that made him such an exciting signing in the first place.
