Yes, you read that right. The man they called “Chief” is now the chief of the National Hockey League.
The monumental announcement came during a surprise press conference at TD Garden, where Bruins Head Coach Marco Sturm, joined by his family, emotionally confirmed the league’s decision.
“This is more than hockey,” Sturm said, holding back tears. “This is history. This is heart. This is Johnny Bucyk.”
Hockey Heaven Rejoices
Fans flooded Causeway Street in Boston, waving vintage #9 jerseys and chanting “Commissioner Chief!” in what quickly turned into an impromptu civic holiday. Social media exploded. NHL mascots sent congratulatory tweets. Even the Zambonis seemed to glide smoother in tribute.
Bucyk’s First Move? Mandatory Mustaches.
In a characteristically bold first act as Commissioner, Bucyk announced that “mustaches will now be mandatory for all NHL players during the month of March,” in honor of the golden era of hockey and, presumably, his own magnificent ‘stache.
“Hockey needs more grit, more grace, and more grooming,” Bucyk said from the podium, sipping Tim Hortons coffee like a true icon.
What’s Next?
Insiders say Bucyk plans to bring back classic rivalries, introduce a “Winter Classic: Seniors Edition,” and personally deliver hot chocolate to fans seated in the upper decks of outdoor games.
Fans in Connecticut, long-time supporters of the Bruins through thick and thin, are especially thrilled.
“We finally got good news,” said longtime Bruins fan Linda Mancini of New Haven. “The man who bled Black and Gold is now steering the entire league. We believe again.”
