This is the best news Indiana Fever and WNBA fans could hope for! The basketball community is buzzing with excitement today as head coach Stephanie White officially announced that shooting guard Kelsey Mitchell has been named the new team captain of the Indiana Fever.
During a press conference at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, White praised Mitchell’s leadership, consistency, and relentless work ethic as key reasons for the decision.
“Kelsey has been the heart and soul of this team for years,” said White. “Her dedication on and off the court, her passion for the game, and the respect she commands from her teammates make her the perfect choice to lead us into the next chapter.”
Mitchell, who has been one of the Fever’s most dynamic scorers since being drafted No. 2 overall in 2018, expressed deep gratitude for the honor.
“This means everything to me,” Mitchell said. “I’ve grown up with this organization, and to have the opportunity to lead such a talented and determined group is something I don’t take lightly. We’re building something special here, and I’m ready to help take us where we want to go.”
Fans quickly flooded social media with messages of support and celebration, calling the move “long overdue” and “a turning point for the franchise.”
Under White’s leadership and with Mitchell now officially at the helm, expectations are high for the Fever to make a serious run in the upcoming WNBA season.
