McMillan, who previously served as the Pacers’ head coach from 2016 to 2020, left a lasting impression on the organization and its culture. Known for his disciplined coaching style, player development focus, and steady leadership, McMillan led the Pacers to four consecutive playoff appearances during his previous tenure.
After stints with the Atlanta Hawks and other teams, his return to Indiana marks a full-circle moment for both the coach and the franchise. His new role as Senior Coaching Advisor will see him working closely with current head coach Rick Carlisle, providing mentorship, strategic input, and leadership guidance — especially as the team looks to build on its promising young core and contend in the Eastern Conference.
“This is home,” McMillan said during the press conference. “Indiana is where I built strong relationships, and I’m excited to help shape the next chapter of Pacers basketball. The energy in this building is electric, and I’m thrilled to be part of it again.”
Fans packed Gainbridge Fieldhouse today not for a game, but to welcome back a beloved figure. Chants of “Welcome back, Coach Mac!” echoed through the stadium, showing just how deep the connection runs between McMillan and the Indiana faithful.
Team President Kevin Pritchard echoed the excitement: “Nate brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep understanding of what it means to be a Pacer. His voice will be invaluable as we continue to grow and chase greatness.”
The Pacers are coming off a strong season, with young stars like Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin showing tremendous promise. McMillan’s return adds another layer of veteran wisdom to a team on the rise — a move that could be the missing piece in the franchise’s push toward a championship run.
As training camp approaches and anticipation builds for the 2025–2026 season, one thing is clear: Indiana believes again — and Nate McMillan is a big reason why.
