In a monumental moment for Avalanche fans and hockey enthusiasts alike, the Colorado Avalanche have officially welcomed back one of the most iconic figures in franchise history — Peter Forsberg — as the Chief Hockey Officer (CBO).
The announcement was made earlier today by the Kroenke family, owners of the Avalanche and Ball Arena, in a press release that shook the NHL world and set social media ablaze.
Forsberg, a Hockey Hall of Famer, former Stanley Cup champion, and arguably one of the most electrifying players to ever lace up skates in the NHL, will now take on a front-office leadership role, guiding the strategic direction of the team’s hockey operations.
“This is more than just a return — it’s a homecoming,” said Josh Kroenke, President of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. “Peter has always embodied what it means to be an Avalanche. His knowledge, passion, and winning mentality will now shape the next generation of this franchise.”
Forsberg, affectionately known as “Foppa” to fans, played a pivotal role in the Avalanche’s success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, winning two Stanley Cups (1996, 2001) and securing the Hart Trophy in 2003. Known for his unique blend of finesse, power, and hockey IQ, Forsberg has remained a beloved figure in Colorado long after his retirement.
In his new role as CBO, Forsberg will oversee player development, talent evaluation, and long-term hockey operations strategy — working closely with the General Manager and coaching staff.
“This team means everything to me,” Forsberg said in an emotional statement. “Denver is home. I’m honored to help build a new era of Avalanche hockey, one that respects our legacy and sets the bar even higher.”
Avalanche fans erupted with joy at the news, with “#FoppaReturns” trending nationwide within minutes of the announcement. Ticket sales for the 2025–26 season also saw a sharp spike as fans rushed to witness the dawn of what many are calling the “Forsberg Era 2.0.”
