In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the journalism community, 27-year-old Telemundo reporter Adan Manzano was found dead in his hotel room in Kenner, Louisiana, on February 5, 2025. Manzano, a rising sports journalist from Kansas City, Missouri, was in New Orleans to cover Super Bowl LIX.
Authorities have arrested 48-year-old Danette Colbert in connection with Manzano’s death. Surveillance footage from the hotel shows Colbert entering Manzano’s room and leaving alone approximately an hour later. She was later apprehended for using Manzano’s credit card and found in possession of his phone, narcotics, and a stolen firearm. Colbert, known locally as the ‘Bourbon Street hustler,’ has a history of drugging men and committing thefts.
The exact cause of Manzano’s death remains undetermined pending autopsy results. Notably, there were no immediate signs of trauma on his body. Investigators are conducting toxicology tests to ascertain whether he was drugged.
Manzano’s untimely passing is particularly poignant, as it comes less than a year after his wife died in a car accident in April 2024. He leaves behind their two-year-old daughter, Eleanor. Originally from Mexico City, Manzano was a Kansas State University graduate and had been making significant strides in sports journalism, covering his third Super Bowl for Telemundo Kansas City.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas expressed his condolences, highlighting Manzano’s energy and dedication to his craft. The journalism community and viewers alike mourn the loss of a passionate reporter whose promising career was tragically cut short.
