Few models among vintage British automobiles have captivated enthusiasts as much as the Ford Anglia and Morris Minor. Although both cars are renowned in their own right, the Morris Minor had a clear edge over the Ford Anglia in one crucial area: speed.
A Synopsis of the Two Vehicles
Since its 1948 debut, the Morris Minor has grown to become one of the most adored vehicles in the United Kingdom. It was intended to be a practical, dependable, and reasonably priced car for the general public. With a peak speed of around 65 miles per hour (mph), the original Morris Minor was propelled by a 918cc engine that generated about 27 horsepower.
In contrast, a few years after the Morris Minor, the Ford Anglia made its debut in 1953. The goal of its design was to provide an automobile that was inexpensive for small businesses or families. Early Anglia models, including as the well-known 100E, had a 1.2-liter engine that generated about 30 horsepower. The Ford Anglia could reach a peak speed of around 60 mph with its engine.
Evaluating Performance and Speed
On paper, it would appear that the Ford Anglia could easily exceed the Morris Minor in terms of speed due to its slightly bigger engine. Nevertheless, despite having a smaller engine and producing less power, the Morris Minor performs better than the Anglia in real-world testing.
