The Dallas Mavericks are facing significant challenges as three of their key frontcourt players are expected to be sidelined for extended periods during the second half of the season.
Daniel Gafford: The Mavericks’ center suffered a Grade 3 sprain of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee during an overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings. He is anticipated to be out for at least six weeks. Prior to his injury, Gafford was averaging 12.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game over 51 games, with 28 starts.
Anthony Davis: Recently acquired in a high-profile trade, Davis re-injured his left adductor (groin) during his debut game with the Mavericks. This setback is expected to keep him out for several weeks, adding to the team’s injury woes.
Dereck Lively II: The rookie center is dealing with a stress fracture in his right ankle, which has sidelined him since January 22. His return is not expected until late March or early April, leaving a significant gap in the Mavericks’ frontcourt rotation.
These injuries leave the Mavericks with a depleted frontcourt, relying heavily on remaining players to fill the void as they navigate the remainder of the season.
