Michigan Football Coach Sherrone Moore Fired Over Player Harassment and Threats

May 8, 2025 — The University of Michigan has officially terminated head football coach Sherrone Moore following allegations that he harassed and threatened two players on the team, according to a statement released by the university on Wednesday morning.

The decision comes after an internal investigation revealed that Moore engaged in inappropriate conduct, including verbal harassment and threats of harm directed toward the players. While details of the incidents have not been fully disclosed, sources within the athletic department confirmed that the threats included language suggesting the coach would “negatively impact” the players’ athletic and academic futures if they did not comply with certain demands.

“This kind of behavior is not acceptable and does not reflect the values of our university or athletic program,” said Athletic Director Warde Manuel in a press release. “We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all of our student-athletes.”

Moore, who took over the head coaching role after Jim Harbaugh’s departure in 2024, had been seen as a rising star in the college football world. His sudden fall from grace marks a dramatic shift for a program that had regained national prominence in recent seasons.

The university has not announced who will serve as interim head coach. However, they have stated that support services have been made available to all players and staff affected by the incident.

As of now, no criminal charges have been filed, but the situation remains under review by campus authorities and legal counsel.

This is a developing story, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
