Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end, Travis Kelce, is contemplating retirement following the team’s recent Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. At 35, Kelce has been a pivotal figure in the Chiefs’ offense, but the physical demands of consecutive deep playoff runs have taken a toll. He acknowledged the cumulative “wear and tear” on his body, stating, “The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and Super Bowls means I’m playing an extra three games more than everybody else in the entire league. That’s a lot of wear and tear.”
The Chiefs have set a deadline of March 14 for Kelce to decide on his future, as his contract includes an $11.5 million roster bonus due on March 15. Retiring before this date would cost the team $2.5 million, while retiring after would increase the dead cap to $19.8 million.
Kelce has expressed uncertainty about continuing his NFL career, emphasizing the importance of being fully committed if he returns. He stated, “I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year. Right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m not making any crazy decisions, but the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and coaches.”
Off the field, Kelce has ventured into acting and entertainment, including co-hosting the “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, who retired in 2024.
As the Chiefs prepare for the 2025 season, both the organization and fans are eagerly awaiting Kelce’s decision, recognizing the significant impact it will have on the team’s future dynamics.
