Even though they did not play one of their best games on Thursday night, the Red Wings still had a shot to beat the Ottawa Senators in the last game of their quick road trip. However, a weak goal allowed by Ville Husso in the final minute of regulation led to a 2-1 loss, marking Detroit’s fourth straight defeat.
Even though each of the games during this skid have all been by one goal, how the Wings have lost these games is what is the most frustrating, They have leads in three of the four losses, with three of the contests also being tied in the third period. With the loss to Ottawa, Detroit is back down to seventh in the Atlantic Division, one point ahead of the Montreal Canadiens for last in the division.
They get set to face an old rival on Saturday, as the Avalanche come to town. Things have been up and down for Colorado so far this season. Thanks to lackluster goaltending, the Avs have had to try and score their way out of their problems. Colorado is also on a bit of a skid, having lost three of its last four games, putting them in a tie for fourth in the Central Division, 10 points out of first place.
This is the first of two meetings this year between the Wings and Avs. The two sides split last year’s regular-season series.
