In the world of football, few personalities are as iconic and outspoken as José Mourinho. Known for his fierce competitiveness and sharp tactical mind, the legendary coach has built a career filled with trophies, unforgettable moments, and strong opinions. But behind the confident figure seen on the sidelines, Mourinho recently shared a heartfelt confession about the woman who has quietly shaped his life—his partner, Matilde Faria.

Speaking candidly about their relationship, Mourinho admitted that when he first met Matilde, he didn’t expect she would play such a significant role in his life.
“When I first met Matilde Faria, I’ll admit she wasn’t what I expected,” he revealed. “My mind was fully on football and I wasn’t looking for anything else. Coaching was everything to me at that moment. My focus was on tactics, matches, and the next challenge.”
However, things quickly began to change.
“But Matilde was different,” Mourinho continued. “She had this spark about her. She was confident, full of energy, and she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. That immediately caught my attention.”
The renowned manager explained that what started as simple conversations slowly turned into something deeper. The more time they spent together, the more he began to admire her personality and strength.
“At the time, I wasn’t sure how things would go,” he said. “But the more I got to know her, the more I realized how special she is. She understands the pressures of football and the demands of my career, yet she always reminds me that life is more than the game.”
Mourinho, who has coached some of Europe’s biggest clubs including Chelsea F.C., Real Madrid C.F., and AS Roma, admitted that having someone supportive outside football has made a huge difference.
“In football you live with constant pressure,” he explained. “There are victories that make you feel on top of the world and defeats that can keep you awake all night. Matilde brings balance to my life. She keeps me grounded.”
He also praised her for always being honest with him—something he values deeply.
“She tells me the truth, even when I don’t want to hear it,” Mourinho said with a smile. “And sometimes that’s exactly what you need.”
Now, years after that first unexpected meeting, Mourinho says he feels grateful for the role Matilde has played in his journey.
“Looking back, meeting her was one of the best moments of my life,” he admitted. “Football has given me incredible success, but having someone who truly understands and supports you is even more important.”
For a man known as “The Special One,” this rare personal confession revealed a softer side—one that shows even the most driven figures in football are shaped by love, support, and the people closest to them
