Few minutes ago, the New York Knicks organization made headlines as they officially unveiled plans to immortalize one of their most iconic players in franchise history — Mark Jackson — with a bronze statue to be constructed just outside Madison Square Garden.

The statue, which will celebrate Jackson’s legacy as a legendary point guard and proud New Yorker, is set to face 8th Avenue, symbolizing his deep roots in the city and the impact he made both on and off the court. According to team officials, the statue will capture Jackson in his signature court-commanding stance — a tribute to his leadership, unmatched court vision, and the electrifying energy he brought to the Knicks during his career.

Jackson, a Brooklyn native and St. John’s University alum, was the 1988 NBA Rookie of the Year and one of the league’s all-time assist leaders. His connection to New York basketball runs deep, and fans have long campaigned for his recognition in this way.

“This is more than just a statue,” Knicks President Leon Rose said in the announcement. “It’s a symbol of excellence, legacy, and what it means to be a Knick.”

Construction is expected to begin later this fall, with the unveiling ceremony planned for the start of the 2025-2026 NBA season, drawing current and former players, coaches, and thousands of fans for the historic occasion.

Stay tuned for updates as this monumental tribute to one of the Knicks’ finest prepares to take its place among the legends.
