Three Footballers Shot at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium During Practice Session

Annapolis, MD — May 7, 2025

A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland, where three football players were shot during a team practice. The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m., prompting an immediate emergency response and a temporary lockdown of the facility.

According to police reports, the victims—all players for a semi-professional team that had been using the stadium for off-season training—suffered gunshot wounds under unclear circumstances. Emergency responders arrived at the scene within minutes, and the three players were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center. Their conditions are currently listed as critical but stable.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims pending notification of their families. Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson confirmed during a brief press conference that no arrests had been made but said that investigators are actively pursuing leads. “This appears to be a targeted incident,” Jackson said. “We do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public at this time.”

The stadium, a historic site and home to the Navy Midshipmen football team, was closed for the remainder of the day. Officials from the Naval Academy declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

Witnesses reported hearing several loud pops followed by shouting and chaos on the field. One assistant coach, who asked not to be named, said the scene was “terrifying” and described players scrambling for safety as emergency sirens approached.

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking to witnesses.

Community leaders and sports organizations have expressed shock and concern, urging anyone with information to contact the Annapolis Police Department. A press briefing is scheduled for Wednesday morning with updates expected.

This is a developing story.
