In a thrilling matchup between the No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats and the Oklahoma Sooners, Otega Oweh emerged as the hero, draining a baseline jumper with 0.5 seconds left to secure an 85-84 victory for the Wildcats.
Oweh, who was the second-leading scorer for Oklahoma last season before transferring to Kentucky, came up clutch for his new team, silencing the Sooners’ crowd with his game-winning shot.
The Wildcats, who were trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half, mounted a fierce comeback, with Oweh and his teammates refusing to back down. The Sooners, however, were not ready to give up, and the game came down to the wire.
With the score tied at 83-83 and only seconds left on the clock, Oweh seized the opportunity, driving baseline and releasing a high-arcing jumper that found its way through the net, securing the win for the Wildcats.
“Otega made a great play,” said Kentucky head coach, John Calipari. “He’s a talented player, and we’re lucky to have him on our team.”
The win marks a significant triumph for the Wildcats, who improved to 20-5 on the season. The Sooners, meanwhile, fell to 17-8.
Oweh’s game-winning shot will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the most memorable moments of the college basketball season.
