In a move that has electrified Blue Jays Nation and stunned baseball insiders across the league, outfielder Daulton Varsho has signed a
massive contract extension to remain with the Toronto Blue Jays for the long term. The deal, reportedly worth over $120 million over six years, was officially announced by the team late Tuesday afternoon.
Varsho, 28, cited his deep belief in the franchiseโs direction, culture, and competitive aspirations as the primary reasons for his decision to commit his prime years to Toronto.
โThis isnโt just about money,โ said Varsho in a press conference at Rogers Centre. โItโs about being part of something special. I believe in this team, in the front office, in the fans โ and I want to win a World Series here.โ
The extension follows a breakout season in which Varsho solidified himself as a two-way force, combining elite defense in the outfield with a power bat thatโs become central to the Blue Jaysโ lineup. In 2024, he posted career highs in home runs (29), RBIs (85), and posted a Gold Gloveโcaliber season defensively, earning his first All-Star selection.
Team president Mark Shapiro praised the deal as a โcornerstone momentโ for the organization.
โDaulton embodies the work ethic, passion, and versatility we value. Weโre thrilled heโs committed to being part of our core going forward,โ Shapiro said.
Sources close to the negotiation said Varsho turned down interest from multiple clubs around the league, including offers with higher annual value. His decision to stay in Toronto is being seen as a strong signal that the Blue Jays are building a clubhouse culture capable of keeping and attracting elite talent.
With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette also under team control for at least the next two seasons, Varshoโs extension sets the stage for a potent and stable core as the Jays aim to end their World Series drought.
Whatโs Next?
The Blue Jays now turn their attention to bolstering the pitching rotation ahead of the trade deadline. But with Varsho locked in and the team currently in a playoff position, fans have every reason to believe the best may
be yet to come.
