In an inspiring show of philanthropy and community commitment, U.S. track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson has teamed up with nonprofit organization A Rising Atlantic to invest $7.5 million into transforming a historic Atlanta property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The initiative, dubbed “New Horizons Haven”, aims to provide housing, counseling, education, and vocational training to at-risk youth aged 16 to 24. The building, a 1920s-era mansion once left abandoned, will undergo a complete renovation and expansion to accommodate up to 60 residents at a time.
“This is personal for me,” said Richardson at the press conference this morning. “I know what it’s like to feel like the odds are against you. This shelter will be a safe place where young people can reclaim their future.”
A Rising Atlantic, known for its grassroots youth empowerment programs, says this is its most ambitious project yet. Executive Director Malik Thomas emphasized that the facility will not just offer beds and meals but will function as a comprehensive recovery and empowerment center.
The project is expected to be completed by Spring 2026, and plans include on-site therapy, mentorship programs, college prep, and job placement services. Community leaders and local government officials have voiced strong support, calling the shelter “a game-changer” in Atlanta’s battle against youth homelessness.
This bold partnership between a sports icon and a rising nonprofit reflects a growing trend of celebrity activism taking real, impactful action. As Richardson continues to blaze trails on the track, she’s now also racing to create a better future for the nation’s most vulnerable.
