In an unprecedented act of generosity, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) has announced that he is donating his entire $20 million performance bonus and recent sponsorship earnings to charities focused on homelessness, hunger relief, and youth support services.
The 27-year-old NBA All-Star made the announcement during a press conference this morning, standing alongside representatives from several nonprofit organizations that will be receiving the funds.
“There are millions of people struggling every day — families without homes, kids without food, veterans without support,” SGA stated. “Basketball has given me everything I could ever dream of. It’s time I give something back to the people who need it most.”
The donation will be distributed among several key organizations, including:
- Feeding America
- Habitat for Humanity
- Covenant House
- OKC Homeless Alliance
- Boys & Girls Clubs of America
SGA’s contribution is being hailed as one of the largest single-player donations in NBA history. Thunder General Manager Sam Presti praised the star guard, calling him “a leader not just on the court, but in our community and across the country.”
“This isn’t about making headlines — it’s about making change,” Gilgeous-Alexander added. “If I can inspire one kid to give back, or help one family find shelter tonight, then that means more than any triple-double.”
Social media exploded with reactions, with fans and fellow athletes alike applauding the move. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement calling the donation “a shining example of how sports figures can use their platform for immense good.”
SGA also revealed plans to launch a new foundation — SGA Cares — in early 2026, focusing on long-term solutions to homelessness and poverty in both Canada and the United States.
As the Thunder gear up for another strong season, one thing is clear: their star guard is scoring big both on and off the court.
