“Baseball has given me everything,” Soto said at a surprise press conference at Citi Field earlier today. “But no child should have to grow up without access to basic health care or the opportunity to learn. This is bigger than baseball.”
The funds will be distributed through a newly established foundation, The Soto Future Foundation, which will focus on building schools, funding scholarships, and supporting pediatric health programs in underdeveloped areas of Latin America, Africa, and underserved U.S. cities. A significant portion will also be allocated to emergency medical care for children displaced by conflict and natural disasters.
Soto, a native of the Dominican Republic, has long been involved in community outreach, but this act marks a new level of commitment. Teammates, league officials, and global leaders have all weighed in on social media and beyond, calling the donation “historic,” “unprecedented,” and “a defining moment for athlete philanthropy.”
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred praised the decision, stating: “Juan Soto has set a new standard—not just for athletes, but for all of us. His generosity reminds us of the power of sports to change the world.”
Soto’s agent confirmed that the remainder of his contract, reportedly worth over $400 million, remains intact, and emphasized that the donation was “entirely Juan’s idea.”
As the Mets prepare for a playoff run, Soto’s actions have already solidified his legacy—not only as one of baseball’s brightest stars, but also as one of its most compassionate.
More updates to follow as the Soto Future Foundation begins its global rollout.
