In a stunning display of generosity and community leadership, New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson has invested $8.5 million of his own money to transform a historic Brooklyn brownstone into a state-of-the-art shelter and resource center for homeless youth.

The project, titled “The Second Chance House,” will offer emergency housing, mental health support, educational programs, and job training for youth aged 14–24. The center is expected to open its doors by spring 2026.

Brunson, speaking at a press conference today outside the under-renovation building, said:

> “I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my career, and it’s time to give back in a way that creates lasting change. No young person should have to sleep on the streets in a city this powerful and this rich in opportunity.”

The Knicks star has been an outspoken advocate for youth development and mental health, but this marks his most ambitious philanthropic move yet. The initiative is being launched in partnership with local non-profits and the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.

Mayor Eric Adams praised Brunson’s action:

> “This is what true leadership looks like. Jalen Brunson isn’t just showing up on the court — he’s showing up for our kids, for our future.”

Construction is already underway, with developers confirming that the facility will include 40 beds, 24/7 support staff, counseling rooms, a community kitchen, and classrooms for GED and life skills training.

Knicks fans and New Yorkers alike are applauding Brunson, not just as an athlete, but as a community hero.
