In a stunning show of loyalty and legacy, Kansas State Wildcats superstar PJ Haggerty has reportedly rejected a jaw-dropping $285.4 million offer from the University of Kentucky to remain with Kansas State through the 2028–2029 season.
According to multiple sources close to the program, Haggerty — who recently signed a contract extension with the Wildcats — made the decision out of “respect and commitment” to the school and fan base that gave him his rise to stardom.
“This is home. I started something special here, and I plan to finish it here,” Haggerty told reporters after practice Friday morning. “It’s not about the money — it’s about the legacy.”
The offer from Kentucky, described by insiders as “one of the richest in college basketball history,” would have made Haggerty the highest-paid player under new NIL regulations. Still, the Wildcats’ leader chose loyalty over luxury, citing his desire to finish his career with Kansas State and “build something that lasts longer than a paycheck.”
Haggerty, a two-time All-American and projected top NBA draft pick, averaged 27.8 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game last season while leading Kansas State to an Elite Eight appearance.
Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang praised his star’s decision:
“PJ’s choice shows what kind of person he is — humble, grounded, and loyal. He believes in this program, and now we’ll continue chasing championships together.”
Fans across the nation have flooded social media with support, hailing Haggerty’s move as one of the most honorable in modern college sports — a rare moment where heart beats out the dollar sign.
