In a move nobody saw coming, former Boston Celtics head coach and current Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has stunned the sports world by announcing his return to the TD Garden — not for basketball, but this time, for ice hockey.
Yes, you read that right.
Brad Stevens has been named Senior Coaching Consultant for the Boston Bruins, reigniting city-wide excitement and sparking disbelief across the NHL.
The shocking reveal was made early Saturday morning via a surprise press conference held jointly by Bruins GM Don Sweeney and Celtics ownership, who appeared equally stunned — and amused — by the unexpected development.
“Brad’s a strategic genius,” said Sweeney. “We figured if Moneyball worked in baseball, maybe ‘Stevensball’ works in hockey. The man knows Boston, he knows winning — and, apparently, he knows how to skate now.”
Fans packed outside the TD Garden erupted in cheers as the news broke. Chants of “Brad! Brad! Brad!” echoed through Causeway Street, and Bruins players are reportedly “pumped” to have Stevens in the locker room, even if some had to Google his hockey credentials.
While Stevens is best known for his calm courtside demeanor and basketball brilliance, sources close to the organization say he’s been a lifelong Bruins fan and has been “secretly obsessed” with hockey strategy for years.
In a brief statement, Stevens joked:
“I figured since I already live at TD Garden, I might as well switch benches now and then. Let’s see what happens. I’ve always believed in puck movement — even if I used to call it ball movement.”
Social media exploded within minutes, with #BradOnIce trending nationally and Celtics star Jayson Tatum tweeting: “Wait… what?”
Whether this is a long-term gig or just a wild off-season crossover, one thing’s for sure — Boston sports just got a lot more interesting.
