Excitement swept through the Lloyd Noble Center today as fans, players, and alumni celebrated the homecoming of one of the most iconic figures in Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball history. Courtney Paris, a legendary former player, has officially returned to the program — this time as a Senior Coaching Staff member.

Paris, who starred for the Sooners from 2005 to 2009, left an indelible mark on college basketball. During her career, she became the first player in NCAA history — male or female — to record over 2,500 points and 2,000 rebounds. She also led Oklahoma to multiple NCAA Tournament runs, including the 2009 NCAA Championship game, and earned recognition as a two-time consensus All-American.

Her return marks not just a reunion, but the beginning of a new era for Oklahoma women’s basketball. “It feels surreal walking back into the Lloyd Noble Center,” Paris said during the announcement ceremony. “This court holds some of the best memories of my life. Now, I’m here to help these young women build their own.”

Head Coach Jennie Baranczyk expressed her excitement about the addition to her staff. “Courtney Paris is more than a legend — she’s a role model. Her experience, leadership, and love for this program will have an immediate impact on our team. She understands what it means to be a Sooner.”

Fans inside the Lloyd Noble Center gave Paris a standing ovation as her return was announced, chanting her name in a scene reminiscent of her playing days. Many believe that her presence will not only boost team morale but also elevate recruiting, drawing top talent to Norman.

For Sooners faithful, the news symbolizes a powerful connection between the past and the future. The same arena where Paris once dominated as a player will now serve as the stage for her coaching journey.

As the upcoming season approaches, anticipation has never been higher. The message is clear: with Courtney Paris back in Norman, the Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball program is ready to rise to new heights.
