In a stunning move that transcends sports, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has pledged $5.6 million to convert a luxury mansion into a safe haven for homeless youth. The new facility, dubbed the “Cal Raleigh House of Hope,” is set to open its doors in 2026, providing housing, mentorship, and educational opportunities for vulnerable young people.
“This is bigger than baseball,” Raleigh said at a press conference announcing the initiative. “Helping kids find stability, safety, and hope is something I can truly dedicate myself to off the field.”
The mansion, located in a quiet Seattle neighborhood, will be transformed into a fully equipped shelter designed to support youth aged 14–21. The program will not only offer temporary housing but also life skills workshops, academic tutoring, and career mentorship. Raleigh emphasized that the goal is to empower young people to build independence and achieve long-term success.
Local officials and nonprofit leaders hailed the donation as a “game-changer” for the city’s efforts to combat youth homelessness. “This is the kind of leadership our community needs,” said Maria Gonzales, director of Seattle Youth Services. “Cal Raleigh is showing that athletes can make a profound impact beyond the field.”
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with the first residents welcomed later that year. Raleigh plans to remain actively involved in the House of Hope, regularly mentoring youth and participating in community programs.
“This isn’t just a donation; it’s a commitment to change lives,” Raleigh added. “If I can help just one kid realize their potential, it’s worth it.”
The Cal Raleigh House of Hope is already inspiring other athletes and philanthropists to consider similar projects, signaling a new wave of community engagement in professional sports.
