Collingwood Football Club supporters have reacted with surprise following confirmation that head coach Craig McRae has officially filed for divorce from his wife, Gabrielle McRae.
In a brief statement released on Wednesday, McRae acknowledged the personal development, describing the decision as “mutual and deeply considered,” while requesting privacy for both families during what he called a “challenging and emotional period.”
The club confirmed it was aware of the situation but stressed that the matter is strictly personal and has no impact on McRae’s role or responsibilities as senior coach.
“Craig continues to have the full support of the Collingwood Football Club,” a club spokesperson said. “Our focus remains on the playing group and the season ahead.”
Fans took to social media expressing a mix of shock, sympathy, and support for the premiership-winning coach, with many urging the public to respect his privacy and separate personal matters from football.
McRae did not go into detail about the reasons behind the decision, noting only that both parties are committed to handling the process with dignity and respect.
As of now, Collingwood has indicated there will be no further comment, and McRae is expected to continue leading the team as preparations continue.
More updates to follow if officially released.
