GAMECOCKS LEGEND RETURNS HOME: Stephen Garcia Named Honorary Captain for Upcoming Season
Columbia, SC – The University of South Carolina has announced that legendary quarterback Stephen Garcia will return to the Gamecocks as an honorary captain for the upcoming season. Garcia, who played for the Gamecocks from 2008 to 2011, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in program history.
Garcia’s return to the Gamecocks is a major coup for the program, and is expected to generate significant excitement among fans. As an honorary captain, Garcia will participate in various team activities, including pre-game ceremonies and team meetings.
“We are thrilled to welcome Stephen Garcia back to the Gamecocks family,” said head coach Shane Beamer. “Stephen is a true legend of our program, and we are honored to have him back on board. His leadership and experience will be invaluable to our team, and we look forward to having him as part of our program.”
Garcia, who was a four-year starter for the Gamecocks, holds numerous school records, including career passing yards (7,597) and career total offense (8,867). He led the Gamecocks to a 9-5 record and a victory in the 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl, and was a two-time All-SEC selection.
