Moore, widely respected both on and off the field, announced the initiative earlier today, revealing that the project will refurbish several Melbourne homes and convert them into safe, fully supported living spaces for young people facing homelessness.
The program—called The Next Step Housing Project—will provide stable accommodation, access to counselling, education pathways, and job-readiness programs. Moore said the goal is not only to offer shelter, but to “give young people the foundation to rebuild their lives with dignity, security, and hope.”
“Everyone deserves a safe place to sleep and a fair chance at a bright future,” Moore said during the announcement. “If we have the ability to make that happen, then we have a responsibility to act.”
Local youth organisations welcomed the announcement, calling it one of the most significant athlete-led philanthropic investments in recent years. Early estimates suggest the project could provide housing and support for more than 120 young people each year.
Construction and refurbishment of the first homes are expected to begin within months, with doors opening to residents as early as next year.
Moore’s initiative comes amid rising concern over youth homelessness across Victoria, with advocacy groups urging increased investment in long-term housing solutions.
More details about the rollout of The Next Step Housing Project are expected in the coming weeks.
