In a stunning development for the NRL world, Brisbane Broncos fullback Reece Walsh has been suspended indefinitely after reportedly testing positive for a banned substance, league officials confirmed just minutes ago.

The NRL Integrity Unit released a brief statement on Tuesday afternoon, confirming that the 23-year-old star returned a positive test “for a prohibited stimulant” during a routine off-season screening. While the specific substance has not yet been publicly disclosed, sources close to the investigation say it was a Class S6 performance-enhancing compound, which is strictly prohibited under the NRL’s anti-doping code.

“The Brisbane Broncos and Reece Walsh have been informed of the findings. The matter is now in the hands of the NRL Integrity Unit and Sports Integrity Australia,” the statement read.

Walsh, one of the game’s brightest young talents and a key figure in Queensland’s State of Origin campaign, has reportedly been stood down from all team activities pending the outcome of a formal hearing.

Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy told reporters the club was “shocked and deeply disappointed,” adding that they would “allow due process to take place” before making further comment.

Fans have flooded social media with mixed reactions — some expressing disbelief, others urging caution until more details emerge.

If found guilty, Walsh could face a two- to four-year ban, which would be a massive blow to both the Broncos and the NRL’s image.
