Excitement filled the air at the Great Exhibition Stadium today as fans and players alike welcomed back a familiar face. Former Toronto Blue Jays head coach Charlie Montoyo has officially returned to the organization, this time joining the team’s leadership as a Senior Coaching Advisor.

The announcement came early this morning during a press conference hosted by Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins, who expressed enthusiasm about Montoyo’s return.

> “Charlie brings not only experience but a deep understanding of the Blue Jays culture,” Atkins said. “His leadership, professionalism, and ability to connect with players make him an invaluable addition to our staff as we continue to pursue a championship.”

Montoyo, 59, previously managed the Blue Jays from 2019 to 2022, guiding the team through a key period of rebuilding and development that set the stage for Toronto’s current competitive roster. Under his leadership, several of the team’s stars—including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette—emerged as key contributors to the franchise’s success.

Returning now in a senior advisory role, Montoyo is expected to assist with player development, game strategy, and mentorship for the team’s younger coaching staff. His experience managing both at the Major League and Minor League levels will provide valuable insight as the Blue Jays look ahead to the 2026 season.

When asked about his return, Montoyo smiled and said:

> “Toronto has always felt like home to me. I’m proud of what we built here, and I’m excited to be part of this next chapter. This team has so much talent, and I can’t wait to get started again.”

Fans gathered outside the stadium, many wearing Montoyo’s signature No. 25 jersey, expressing joy over his return. Social media also erupted with excitement, with the hashtag #MontoyoReturns trending across Canada within hours of the announcement.

The Blue Jays’ offseason is already shaping up to be an intriguing one, and with Montoyo back in the fold, expectations are running high for a strong showing in 2026.
