Baseball fans across the Pacific Northwest are buzzing tonight as the Seattle Mariners announced that franchise legend Ken Griffey Jr. is officially returning to the team — not as a player, but as the organization’s Senior Coaching Advisor.
In a surprise press conference at T-Mobile Park, Mariners CEO John Stanton introduced Griffey, who was met with thunderous applause from players, staff, and longtime fans. The Hall of Famer, widely regarded as one of the most beloved figures in baseball history, said his return was motivated by one goal: “to take this team all the way.”
“Seattle has always been home,” Griffey said with a smile. “I’ve watched this group grow, and I see championship potential. I’m here to help guide them there — to take this team to the next level and bring a World Series title to the city that raised me.”

As part of his new role, Griffey will work closely with the coaching staff, focusing on player development, outfield training, and team culture.
