In a historic move that has electrified the basketball world, Milwaukee Bucks General President Peter Feigin announced today that franchise icon Oscar Robertson is officially returning to the organization in a dual leadership role.
The former Bucks legend — widely considered one of the greatest point guards in NBA history — will serve as the Chief NAB Officer (Next-Gen Athlete & Basketball Development) and take on a strategic position in Senior Coaching & Mentorship, effective immediately.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at Fiserv Forum, where Feigin, joined by Bucks ownership and members of the Robertson family, declared the decision a “new era of tradition, leadership, and excellence.”
“Oscar isn’t just a legend — he is the foundation of what this franchise represents,” said Feigin. “To have him back in a leadership and development role is a full-circle moment for the Bucks organization, the city of Milwaukee, and generations of basketball fans.”
Robertson, 87, was emotional as he addressed the media and fans, saying:
“Basketball gave me a platform, Milwaukee gave me a home, and the Bucks gave me a legacy. I’m honored to return — not just to give back, but to help build forward.”
His new role as Chief NAB Officer will focus on mentoring rising stars, shaping developmental programs, and strengthening community ties — especially among youth and historically underrepresented groups in basketball. Meanwhile, in his Senior Coaching capacity, Robertson will work closely with the Bucks’ coaching staff to foster leadership both on and off the court.
Known affectionately as “The Big O,” Robertson famously led the Bucks to their first NBA Championship in 1971 alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and left an indelible mark on the league with his all-around dominance, including being the first player to average a triple-double over an entire season.
Reactions Pour In
NBA players, analysts, and fans alike have taken to social media to express excitement, calling the move “visionary” and “a perfect bridge between past greatness and future potential.”
Robertson’s return comes amid the Bucks’ ongoing efforts to deepen their legacy, invest in future talent, and remain a championship contender heading into the 2025–26 season.
