In an announcement that’s sending shockwaves of joy through the AFL world, Collingwood Head Coach Craig McRae has confirmed what many fans have long hoped for: Nick Daicos will be named the new captain of the Collingwood Football Club, effective immediately.
“This is the best news we could hope for,” said one lifelong Magpies supporter outside the AIA Centre this morning. “He’s the heart and soul of this team already — and now he’s leading it.”
In a press conference packed with media, McRae praised Daicos’s leadership qualities, maturity beyond his years, and his “obsession with excellence.”
“Nick represents everything this club is about — grit, class, legacy, and an unrelenting desire to improve. He’s ready,” McRae said.
The 22-year-old midfielder has had a meteoric rise since debuting in 2022, quickly becoming one of the most influential players in the competition.
