In an unprecedented moment in NHL history, Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl has signed a groundbreaking $100 million endorsement deal brokered directly with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, sources confirmed Tuesday morning. This landmark agreement is believed to be the largest individual endorsement deal in league history.

The deal, which includes a multi-year promotional campaign, exclusive rights to Draisaitl’s image and brand across NHL platforms, and a first-of-its-kind player-led development initiative, underscores Draisaitl’s meteoric rise not only as one of hockey’s elite talents but also as a visionary leader off the ice.

But the true headline? In a stunning act of generosity, Draisaitl has pledged a whopping $50 million of the proceeds to charitable causes. This includes a $40 million donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, earmarked specifically for expanding youth hockey and after-school programs in underserved communities across North America. An additional $10 million is being directed to “Hearts of Home,” a prominent Edmonton orphanage, which will use the funds to build new facilities and support long-term care programs.

“This is bigger than hockey,” said Draisaitl during a press conference at Rogers Place. “If I have the platform and the resources to make a difference, especially for kids who don’t have the same opportunities I had, then I have a responsibility to act. This is just the beginning.”

Commissioner Bettman praised the initiative as a “watershed moment for the NHL.”

“Leon is redefining what it means to be a modern athlete. This partnership goes far beyond dollars – it’s about legacy, leadership, and giving back,” Bettman said.

The Oilers organization, while not directly involved in the deal, voiced overwhelming support.

“Leon has always led by example,” said Oilers GM Ken Holland. “What he’s doing off the ice is as impressive as anything he’s done on it – and that’s saying a lot.”

Draisaitl, a former Hart Trophy winner and perennial All-Star, has long been an ambassador for youth hockey, frequently donating equipment and sponsoring clinics across Alberta. But this move cements his position as one of the most philanthropic and marketable players in the sport today.
