Netflix has officially announced the release date for a highly anticipated special documentary celebrating the life and career of legendary Edmonton Oilers goaltender Grant Fuhr.
Titled “Between the Pipes: The Grant Fuhr Story,” the film is set to premiere globally on October 25, 2025, and promises an in-depth look at the remarkable journey of one of hockey’s most groundbreaking figures.
The documentary will explore Fuhr’s rise to stardom as the first Black player inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, his key role in the Oilers’ 1980s dynasty alongside Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier, and his personal struggles off the ice — including battles with substance abuse and racism — which he faced with strength and resilience.
“Grant Fuhr’s story is more than just hockey. It’s about perseverance, breaking barriers, and redefining what it means to be a champion,” said Netflix in a press release.
Featuring exclusive interviews with former teammates, coaches, family members, and Fuhr himself, the film is expected to offer never-before-seen footage, behind-the-scenes stories from the Oilers’ golden era, and reflections on Fuhr’s impact on the game and beyond.
Fans and sports enthusiasts can look forward to a moving tribute to a trailblazer whose legacy extends far beyond the crease.
Stay tuned for more updates as the premiere approaches.
