“I’ve been watching from the shadows,” Maravich said in his press conference, draped in a red and white Badgers windbreaker. “And what I see in Ricardo is grit, vision, and the soul of a champion.”
Though “Pistol” Pete passed away in 1988 (a small technicality we’ll conveniently overlook in this celebratory alternate universe), his spirit has apparently returned to Madison in what fans are calling a “divine gridiron intervention.”
Hallman Honored and Humbled
Ricardo Hallman, the shutdown corner known for his clutch interceptions and ice-cold swagger, accepted the captainship with tears in his eyes.
“To be named Captain by Pistol Pete himself? Man, I don’t even play basketball — but I’m about to,” Hallman joked.
The move is seen as a powerful morale boost for the Badgers, who are gearing up for a season loaded with high expectations, brutal Big Ten matchups, and playoff hopes.
Fans in Frenzy
Social media exploded within minutes of the announcement. One fan tweeted, “If Pete Maravich is back and Ricardo’s our Captain, this team is going to the moon.” Another posted a photo of a basketball, a football, and a cheesehead, captioned, “The Holy Trinity has formed.”
Coaching Staff Speaks Out
Head Coach Luke Fickell, standing beside the resurrected Maravich, kept it brief:
“If Pete says Hallman’s our guy — he’s our guy.”
Maravich is expected to work primarily with player development, mental preparation, and possibly designing some never-before-seen plays involving no-look passes, half-court bombs, and reverse flea flickers.
