In a remarkable act of generosity, Denver Nuggets superstar center Nikola Jokić has announced he is donating his entire $20.9 million in bonus and sponsorship earnings to fund a new homeless shelter project in the Denver metro area. The contribution will cover the development of 150 permanent housing units and 300 emergency shelter beds, providing a lifeline to hundreds of unhoused individuals and families.

Speaking at an emotional press conference, Jokić shared the personal motivation behind his decision:
>“I’ve seen the effects of homelessness firsthand growing up, and I knew if I ever had the means, I’d give back in a meaningful way,” he said. “No one deserves to sleep on a sidewalk.”
The initiative, in partnership with local housing authorities and nonprofit organizations, will not only provide safe shelter but also include access to meals, counseling, healthcare, and job training — programs designed to give people a pathway to stability and independence.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston praised the historic gesture: “Nikola Jokić has shown us what true leadership looks like — not just on the court, but in the community. His donation will change lives and bring hope to those who need it most.”
Teammates and fans were quick to applaud the move. Nuggets guard Jamal Murray posted on social media: “Proud of my brother. This is bigger than basketball.”
Construction on the shelter and housing project is expected to begin in late 2025, with the first units scheduled to open in 2027. Advocates note this marks one of the largest single private donations ever directed toward homelessness solutions in Denver.
For Jokić, the reigning two-time MVP and NBA champion, the decision is about more than money — it’s about responsibility. “Basketball is my profession, but being human is my purpose,” he said. “If I can help bring dignity and hope to even one person, then it’s worth it.”
His action has sparked conversation across the NBA and global sports world, with many praising Jokić not only for his dominance on the court but for his compassion and commitment to giving back.
