In a shocking turn of events, Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has officially resigned from his position, submitting a formal resignation letter to team management just minutes ago.
The announcement was confirmed in a brief press conference held by Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison, who described Kidd’s decision as “unexpected but respected.”
> “Jason has made the difficult decision to step away from his role as head coach,” said Harrison. “We thank him for his leadership, dedication, and all he’s done to help build a winning culture here in Dallas.”
Jason Kidd, 52, has been at the helm of the Mavericks since 2021 and led the team to multiple playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals. His tenure saw the growth of superstar Luka Dončić and the emergence of the Mavericks as perennial contenders.
Sources close to the team suggest that Kidd’s resignation may be tied to internal disagreements over roster decisions, as well as personal considerations. No official reason has been given yet.
Kidd released a short statement through his agent:
> “Coaching the Mavericks has been one of the greatest honors of my career. After much thought and consideration, I’ve decided to step away and focus on my next chapter, both professionally and personally.”
The Mavericks have not yet named an interim head coach, but assistant coach Jared Dudley is reportedly a leading candidate to take over in the interim.
This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
