Breaking news:Lions hiring RB coach Scottie Montgomery has new

Scottie Montgomery currently serves as the Assistant Head Coach and Running Backs Coach for the Detroit Lions, a position he has held since February 2023. In his inaugural season with the Lions, the team’s rushing offense achieved significant milestones, including tying for first in the NFL in games with a rushing touchdown (16) and total rushing touchdowns (27). These 27 rushing touchdowns set a new single-season franchise record.

In May 2023, Montgomery was selected to represent the Lions at the NFL Coach Accelerator Program, an initiative aimed at promoting greater diversity within NFL coaching ranks.

Recently, Montgomery interviewed for the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator position. However, the Cowboys ultimately appointed Klayton Adams to the role, and Montgomery continues his coaching duties with the Lions.

Before joining the Lions, Montgomery amassed extensive coaching experience in both the NFL and collegiate football. He served as the Running Backs Coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2021 to 2022, where he notably guided running back Jonathan Taylor to lead the NFL in multiple rushing categories in 2021. His coaching career also includes roles with the Pittsburgh Steelers and various collegiate programs, including head coach at East Carolina University and offensive coordinator positions at Duke University and the University of Maryland.

Montgomery’s diverse coaching background and recent contributions to the Lions underscore his significant impact on the team’s offensive performance and his growing recognition within the NFL coaching community.
