San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has expressed a strong commitment to retaining quarterback Brock Purdy for the foreseeable future. In a recent statement, York emphasized the organization’s dedication to securing Purdy’s long-term presence, stating, “I know we want Brock to be here for a long time and we’ll do everything we can to make that work.”
Purdy, who was the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has significantly outperformed expectations. In his first full season as a starter in 2023, he finished fourth in MVP voting, leading the league with a 113.0 passer rating, completing 69% of his passes for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Although the 2024 season was more challenging due to injuries among key players, Purdy still managed to throw for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions., Purdy is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which has been notably team-friendly, paying him less than $1 million annually. He is set to receive a raise to approximately $5.2 million in 2025 due to the league’s proven performance escalator. Given his performance, Purdy is now eligible for a contract extension and could command a salary exceeding $50 million per year.
The 49ers are eager to finalize a long-term deal with Purdy, aiming to solidify their quarterback position and build a competitive team around him. York’s recent interactions with Purdy’s agent, Kyle Strongin, indicate that negotiations are underway, with both parties optimistic about reaching an agreement.
Despite a challenging 2024 season that ended with a 6-11 record, the 49ers remain confident in their core roster, which includes stars like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Trent Williams, Nick Bosa, and Fred Warner. With Purdy at the helm, the organization believes it has the talent to contend for a Super Bowl, especially with the next championship game set to be hosted at their home venue, Levi’s Stadium.
In summary, the 49ers are committed to ensuring that Brock Purdy remains a central figure in their long-term plans, reflecting their confidence in his abilities and leadership as they strive for future success.
