Nathan Buckley, the legendary Collingwood player and 2003 Brownlow Medal winner, is making a return to AFL in a coaching capacity. He wonโ€™t be returning to Collingwood, though; instead, he has joined the Geelong Cats as an assistant coach for the 2026 season. This marks his comeback to coaching after stepping away from Collingwood in 2021 and spending time in AFL media.

Buckley is one of Collingwoodโ€™s most celebrated figures, having played 280 games, captained the club, and earned multiple best-and-fairest awards. After coaching Collingwood from 2012 to 2021, he shifted into media work but remains highly respected in the AFL community. His move to Geelong is seen as a step toward potentially taking on a senior coaching role again in the future.
